What is a Wisdom Tooth?
When you are in your late teens and early twenties, you may find that you are growing your third set of molars way in back behind your other teeth. This set of molars is more commonly referred to as your wisdom teeth. Now, not everyone gets them (genetic differences play a role), and some people grow them, but they grow in line with the rest of their teeth and cause no problems.
More commonly though, these otherwise useless teeth wreak havoc on your mouth as they try to erupt. This is because they have a tendency to grow at an angle rather than straight up. This can cause a variety of issues if not immediately taken care of.
What Could Happen if I Let Them Grow?
Wisdom teeth can cause you a great deal of pain and hassle if you let them grow uninhibited.
The teeth surrounding your wisdom teeth also face trauma as the pressure exerted on them from the angle at which your third molars grow pushes and shift them. Wisdom teeth can cause crowding, angled and crooked teeth (which can cause uneven bite force and can cause damage and fractures), and can reverse some orthodontic procedures you have previously endured, such as braces.
How to Eliminate the Risk
Your wisdom teeth can cause a great deal of risk, but it is pretty easy to get rid of. Simply get rid of the teeth! For oral surgeons like ourselves, this is a relatively common and pretty easily done procedure, so you shouldn't be worried! We administer you a local or general anesthetic, and then we cut through the gums to expose the tooth. Then, we take the time to remove the tooth, clean the area, and then suture the wound so that it can heal and you can be well on your way. Impacted teeth may be a tad more difficult, but they are also removable.
Pinnacle Oral Surgery Specialists can help you to lose your teeth (and repair any damage that has already been done) in no time, restoring optical oral health, a pain-free and beautiful smile, and eliminate worry once the procedure is done. Give us a call and get your teeth removed today!
