3 Signs It's Time to Remove Those Wisdom Teeth

Posted on 1/2/2019 by Front Office
Your wisdom teeth are your third and final set of molars. For most people, these teeth erupt in the late teens or early 20s. Many people find they don't have room in their jaws to support these extra molars without crowding the other teeth, and at times they can even become a source of trouble.

Here are three of the signs you should look out for indicating it may be time to have yours removed.

You Begin to Feel Pain

Pain is what prompts most people to visit a dentist in the first place. If the pain originates from the wisdom teeth, it’s not likely to be excruciating, but it will usually present as a dull ache within the jaw. This can be caused by the tooth or several of your wisdom teeth being impacted. This means that they're stuck in the jaw bone and/or gums and cannot erupt as normal into the mouth.

Meats and other tough or chewy foods that are hard on your teeth are also likely to exacerbate the condition.

You Start Having Sinus Issues

You probably never expected your wisdom teeth to affect your sinuses. It turns out that the deep roots of the wisdom teeth in the upper jaw can rub against your sinuses. When this happens, it results in a buildup of pain and pressure. Some even experience serious headaches and nasal congestion.

If you start to have these issues, then a wisdom teeth removal procedure is likely needed.

Things Seem Crowded

A shift in the alignment of your smile can make you start to feel like it’s getting crowded in your mouth, especially when you have straight teeth. Your wisdom teeth may be responsible for this, leading to problematic issues with the gums, cleaning difficulties or infections arising from trapped food.

These three and a few others like cyst formation around the teeth and eating troubles are signs your wisdom teeth could be due for removal.
